Madison’s Plan Commission members referred discussions of distributing a demolition permit and amending uses of land at daytime shelters to the next meeting March 10.
Members will consider distributing a demolition permit to tear down industrial buildings at 701 E. Mifflin St. and 124 N. Livingston St. The demolition would be part of future development of the property to construct 196 multi-family housing units.
In order for a demolition permit to be distributed, committee members must change the current zoning of the area to facilitate the construction of a residential establishment. Committee members will have to agree to convert the current zone from a Planned Development and Traditional Employment district to a Traditional Residential district at the next meeting.
Committee members will also discuss land use alterations of daytime shelters at the future meeting. Daytime shelters are currently considered establishments open to the public between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. as a place of assembly.
Members will consider approving “principal use” of land at daytime shelters, allowing non-profit organizations or religious institutions to provide food and supportive services. This decision will serve as an amenity to the current use of the shelters.
The committee members will reconvene at the City-County Building March 10 and take up these decisions.
