Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred early Sunday morning on South Bedford Street, according to Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain in an incident report.
The victim, a 33-year-old downtown Madison resident, contacted the MPD to report the incident, according to DeSpain. The Madison man said the suspect approached him on South Bedford Street at approximately 2:45 a.m.
The suspect was wielding a handgun aimed at the victim while demanding money, according to police.
The victim said in the report he was able to run away from the assailant before the suspect obtained any cash, according to DeSpain. The victim watched the suspect get into a red SUV parked nearby after fleeing.
According to the report, the suspect is approximately 20 or 30 years old between 140 and 160 pounds and was wearing a grey hoodie underneath a “dark blue” winter coat.
