A fire broke out on the fourth floor of Porchlight, Inc., on North Brooks Street at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday.
Porchlight resident Nick Otis reported smelling smoke on the fourth floor, and several shelter inhabitants cited an electrical fire as the source of the incident.
No official cause has been confirmed, according to Madison Fire Department spokesperson Lori Wirth.
Grainger Hall has been opened as a temporary warming area while firefighters work to extinguish the fire and secure the building, said another resident, John Breen.
