Alexis Ohanian, a co-founder and investor of Reddit, a user-aggregated social media website, will visit campus Thursday as part of University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Distinctive Lecture Series.
Ohanian, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., graduated from the University of Virginia and co-founded Reddit, one of the most popular social news websites, with Steve Huffman, according to the DLS website.
After leaving Reddit, Ohanian founded the social enterprise Breadpig, and then went on to help launch the travel website Hipmunk in 2010. He ran the marketing and public relations sectors during Hipmunk’s first year before joining the fight against Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act, according to the website.
He also wrote a book called “Without Their Permission,” published in 2013, which discusses “harnessing the power of the web for good,” according to the book’s website.
The lecture will be held in Union South’s Varsity Hall at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
