State Rep. Pat Strachota, R-West Bend, announced Sunday she will not seek re-election to the state Assembly because she wants to spend more time with her family, according to a release.
Strachota represents District 58 near Milwaukee and said in the statement her mother’s health prompted her decision to leave the assembly. She said she will continue to pursue her passion for “good government” in the future.
Wisconsin voters first elected her to the state Assembly in 2004 after she served as the Washington County Board supervisor for 16 years. She is a member of the Joint Finance Committee, which creates the state budget biannually.
Strachota ran unopposed in her 2012 election. She said in the release she is “confident that a good Republican” will take her place.
Strachota is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council, a partnership between conservative legislators and corporate and nonprofit leaders.
In the release, Strachota thanked her constituents and family for their support.
