The Wisconsin state Assembly passed a bill Thursday that would allow the University of Wisconsin System to participate in classified government research.
The UW System currently prohibits professors from conducting classified experiments and researchers can’t be published.
Legislators in favor of the bill, such as State Rep. Mike Kuglitsch, R-New Berlin, testified at a public hearing Feb. 10 saying an increase in classified research would result in larger research grants from the federal government.
The bill was was sent to the state Senate after approval by a voice vote.
