University of Wisconsin-Madison students spoke out about their expectations of this year’s Olympic events in Sochi. While some students expressed concern about the conditions in Sochi, others are making plans to watch the games and cheer on their favorite athletes.
Sophomore Amanda Panas
“I saw an article about the hotel rooms being unfinished. I think it’s ridiculous.”
Sophomore Clare McDonald
“The off-site stuff is more at risk, like skiing, because there is no way they can really regulate the total area.”
Junior Jacob Foss
“I love the sport. Curling is my thing.”
“I hear the new deal is toothpaste bombs. We’ve got to be careful about that—scary stuff.”
Sophomore Herman Kelle
“My town has a ski-jumping tournament every year, and I’ve gone the past 19 years. You could not pay me enough to do that. These guys in the Olympics go even farther than what the guys do in my hometown, so I’m excited.”
Senior Parker Anderson
“I’m going to be watching my man Jonathan Quick, goaltender for the U.S.A.”
“I would just like a rematch of the Vancouver game between the U.S. and Canada. If they beat us again, so be it. Go U.S.A.”
