The University of Wisconsin-Madison will host its ninth annual Madison Reads Leopold event Saturday as part of Leopold Weekend, according to a university release.
Aldo Leopold was the first research director at the Arboretum and published “A Sand County Almanac” in 1948 after his death. According to the statement, the book inspired people to make changes for the benefit of the natural environment and his words continue to be influential today.
The event will occur in the Arboretum’s Visitor Center from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. with a reading of Leopold’s “January Thaw” as well as additional readings detailing plant and animal life and his conservation philosophy, according to another release.
Madison Reads Leopold is free to the public. In addition to readings, an extensive collection of Leopold archive materials and artifacts will be on display at the event.
