University of Wisconsin-Madison officials announced plans to slow down the campus-wide email and calendar system transition to Microsoft Office 365 Tuesday to ensure the switch is carried out correctly, according to a university news release.
Moderating the process down is the best way to avoid a technical problem given the amount of data that would be moved in a university the size of UW-Madison, according to the release.
Bruce Maas, vice provost for information technology and chief information officer, said in a university-commissioned independent review he wants to ensure project leaders are being careful.
“We will do our due diligence to address the issues the review identified and move forward with confidence,” Maas said.
Provost Paul M. DeLuca, Jr. said he plans to examine the necessary changes for at least a few months, according to the release.
“We want to make doubly sure that the decisions made so far are solid, economical, workable and sustainable over the long haul,” DeLuca said.
