Wisconsin law professors win award for clinic program

Madison Magazine awarded two University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School professors the 2014 Best of Madison Business Award for their creation of the Law and Entrepreneurship Clinic, according to a university press release.

Anne Smith and Eric Englund founded the program for law students to gain experience practicing with small businesses and entrepreneurs in the Madison area, the release said. The program aims to help entrepreneurs avoid legal downfalls and expand local business operations.

The Law and Entrepreneurship Clinic, which has served approximately 600 clients since its foundation in 2009, provides students with legal procedure mentorship from experienced local attorneys, according to the release.

Due to its dedication to the program, PreLaw Magazine recently named the UW-Madison Law fourth in the nation for clinical offerings, the statement said.

Smith credits the overall success of the program to the strong relationships built between law students and area business leaders, according to the release.
