Alice Waters to speak on UW-Madison’s campus Thursday

World renowned chef, author and food activist Alice Waters will visit the University of Wisconsin-Madison and speak to campus and community members Thursday as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series, according to a press release.

Waters is an active proponent of the organic food movement and has been named one of the world’s most influential food advocates in the last 50 years, according to the release. Her restaurant Chez Panisse in Berkeley, Calif., is widely recognized for using organic and locally grown ingredients, as well as for its role in helping to establish California cuisine.

Additionally, food and cooking have been the subject of Waters’ books, which include “Chez Panisse Cooking” and “The Art of Simple Food.”

The event will be held in Union South’s Varsity Hall at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
