The Wisconsin Dance Marathon, a student-organized charity event that raises funds and awareness for about patients and families at the American Children’s Hospital, will be held Saturday, according to the event’s website.
The Marathon will occur from noon to midnight at Memorial Union’s Great Hall and feature a superhero theme to “show Bucky’s children that they are stronger than the battles they face,” according to the website.
Despite the name, the event will include more than dancing. Students have pledged they will remain standing during the entire 12 hours, both as a fundraiser and a way to honor children who are sick.
Additionally, the event will highlight various performers, UW-Madison professors and student speakers and Bucky Badger.
Families and staff from the hospital will also attend to meet and talk about their experiences with students.
The first Wisconsin Dance Marathon was held in 2009 after Madison’s American Children’s Hospital opened in 2007.
