Six University of Wisconsin-Madison faculty members were appointed to Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation professorships, according to a Thursday statement.
Professors David Beebe, Russell Castronovo, Nancy Keller, Ronald Raines, Mary Louise Roberts and Robert Staiger will each receive $75,000 in research support from WARF over five years, according to the statement.
WARF is UW-Madison’s private, nonprofit patent and licensing organization that provides funding for professorships as part of its annual grant to the university.
Beebe is a Claude Bernard Professor of Biomedical Engineering and leads the Microtechnology, Medicine and Biology Lab. He applies micro-scale physics to cancer and global health problems.
Castronovo is a Tom Paine Professor of English and studies the public and political significance of American literature. He focuses on American Revolution pamphlets and early 20th-century anarchist manifestos.
Keller is a Robert L. Metzenberg and Kenneth B. Raper Professor of Mycology. She researches genetic metabolic regulation and fungal development.
Raines is a Linus Pauling Professor of Chemical Biology and has worked on an anti-cancer agent, stable synthetic collagens and chemical processes converting biomass into refined fuels.
Roberts is a Lucie Aubrac Professor of History specializing in topics such as World War II, France and gender. She has written several books, most recently on D-Day.
Staiger is a James Meade Professor of Economics studying international trade policy, rules and institutions. He specializes in World Trade Organization economics and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
