Police arrested a University of Wisconsin-Madison student early Saturday morning after he punched one man inside a downtown bar and head-butted another man, according to a Madison Police Department report.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:06 a.m. on the 500 block of State Street, when 22-year-old Michael Zaiss insulted one 22-year-old victim and punched him in the face, MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain said in the report. A bouncer then kicked the suspect out of the bar.
As a friend of the victim exited the bar later Saturday morning, the suspect approached him and head-butted the 22-year-old man and broke his nose, DeSpain said in the report. An MPD officer on regular patrol witnessed the second battery and caught Zaiss as he attempted to flee the scene, the report said.
Zaiss was arrested on two counts of battery, disorderly conduct and possession of cocaine, DeSpain said in the report.
