A Madison police officer arrested Akeem Wilkins after engaging in a physical fight to assist another citizen attacked by Wilkins on West Gorham Street, April 12.
Wilkins, a 20-year-old Madison man, allegedly threw a 24-year-old man down to the ground and proceeded to beat him on the 400 block of West Gorham Street, according to Madison Police Department Officer Howard Payne in an incident report.
A Madison police officer was on his routine patrol when he came across the incident at approximately 2:50 a.m. The officer intervened to help the victim when Wilkins attacked him, according to the report.
A nearby citizen witnessed the event and restrained Wilkins, allowing the officer to place handcuffs on the aggressor, Payne said in the report.
Wilkins was sent to Dane County Jail for battery and obstructing an officer.
