The Madison Police and Fire Commission named Madison Police Department Sgt. Mike Koval as the new Police Chief Friday, according to The Wisconsin State Journal.
Koval, who will take over for Interim Police Chief Randy Gaber, was one of two internal candidates to be considered for the position, along with Central District Capt. Carl Gloede, according to the State Journal.
Koval has worked with the MPD since 1983 and was directly responsible for the training and recruitment efforts of the department, according to the State Journal.
The Commission announced the new chief after a special closed session Friday at the Central District Offices.
