The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department will host its annual drug take-back event Friday to collect expired or unused medications, according to a release.
The aim of the event is to get expired and unused medications out of homes and into the hands of qualified professional who can safely dispose of them.
UWPD plans to hold the event from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 1429 Monroe Street, with drive-up service available. Volunteers from the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy will help collect the medications and will be stationed outside of the building, according to the release.
UWPD can accept items such as vitamins, inhalers and prescription medicines, the release said. However, UWPD cannot accept IV bags, oxygen tanks, thermometers or anything with a needle or lancet.
For those unable to attend the event, UWPD encourages them to stop by a permanent MedDrop box, open 24 hours a day, inside the UWPD main lobby.
In collaboration with the National Take-Back Initiative, UWPD’s event brought in around 90 pounds of medication last year.
