UW-Madison School of Music officials will appear before a city committee Wednesday to seek approval to move forward on the $22 million construction of a new performance hall.
The new performance space, to be located at the intersection of Lake Street and University Avenue, will feature a 325-seat recital hall, large rehearsal room and spacious lobby to replace outdated facilities in the Mosse Humanities Building, according to a statement from the university.
The concert hall, which is part of UW Madison’s East Campus Gateway project, will go before the city’s Urban Design Commission Wednesday and is funded entirely by anonymous donors.
The second phase of the project, which is still in early planning stages, will include the construction of a larger 800-person capacity concert hall. The smaller building is designed in a “U” shape and the larger hall will eventually be built in the middle of the “U.”
