The University of Wisconsin-Madison community will commemorate 9/11 Thursday with a talk by Nobel prize nominee Ajarn Sulak Sivaraksa, according to a university events calendar.
The event, “Reflections on Non-Violence and Religious Activism Today,” will take place at 7 p.m. in room 1100 of Grainger Hall, according to the calendar.
Sulak Sivaraksa is one of the leading social thinkers in Asia. He has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize twice and was awarded the Right Livelihood Award, which is considered an alternative to the Nobel Peace Prize, in 1995.
Sulak Sivaraksa has created various educational and political grassroots organizations and has written more than 100 books on a variety of topics including globalization, the environment and consumerism.
The event is co-sponsored by The Center for Southeast Asian Studies and the Religious Studies program at UW-Madison.
The event is free and open to the public.
