The U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the same-sex marriage bans in both Wisconsin and Indiana were unconstitutional in a decision Thursday.
The case was heard by Chicago-based federal judges Richard Posner, David Hamilton and Ann Claire Williams, after a state appeal to Judge Barbra Crabb's decision to overturn the ban in June.
"We'll see that the governments of Indiana and Wisconsin have given us no reason to think they have a "reasonable basis" for forbidding same-sex marriage," Posner said in the decision. "The grounds advanced by Indiana and Wisconsin for their discriminatory policies are not only conjectural; they are totally implausible."
