The Midwest Transport Workforce Center received a federal grant to create a new center to implement transportation education and provide training for those interested in transportation careers.
MTWC serves nine Midwestern states and is one of five centers nationwide to receive this $600,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration, according to a university news brief.
The brand new center will be housed inside UW-Madison’s National Center for Freight and Infrastructure Research and Education, which focuses on the economic issues facing the freight industry.
“The center will take a strategic approach to workforce development by engaging and facilitating partnerships between [the] transportation industry, education and economic development.” Teresa Adams, a professor of civil and industrial engineering who will be at the forefront of the center’s creation, said in the release.
UW-Madison and the MTWC will cooperate with other federally funded centers nationwide to forge an initiative to further education for transportation workers across the US.
