State Rep. Joan Ballweg, R-Markesan, announced Wednesday she will run for majority leader in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Ballweg said in a statement she was running for the position to “support and promote Wisconsin conservative values.”
Previously, Ballweg served for two terms as the Republican majority caucus chair in the state Assembly and has served in the state Assembly for six terms.
The position of majority leader in the state Assembly was in the news recently, after former Rep. Bill Kramer, R-Waukesha, was forced out of the position and eventually resigned over allegations of sexual assault.
The current majority leader, Rep. Patricia Strachota, R-West Bend, has been serving in the position since the Assembly voted to remove Kramer in March. Strachota did not seek another term in the Nov. 4 election.
