More than 1,000 people have used the Madison Water Utility Board’s new online water consumption tracking feature, according to a City of Madison press release Thursday.
Madison Water Utility launched the feature to promote water conservation earlier in October. It allows customers to see their hourly water usage within their household.
“You need the knowledge of how you’re using your water and when you’re using your water to be able to conserve it,” Madison Water Utility Customer Service Manager Robin Piper said in the release.
The system allows customers to learn what the biggest water consuming processes are in their household, according to the Madison Water Utility’s website, and is made possible by a new wireless water meter tracking system installed by the city last year.
According to the press release, the online tracking feature is the only one of its kind in Wisconsin, and part of only a few nationwide.
