Sleeping space dispute turns violent with aluminum crutch

A Madison woman struck a Madison man with an aluminum crutch during a dispute over a sleeping space outside the City-County Building on the 200 block of Martin Luther King Blvd, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

Two witnesses, a 37-year-old pregnant woman and her boyfriend, called police around 3:15 a.m. when the shouting between the two escalated to physical blows.

The 53-year-old male victim was eventually able to disarm the suspect, although he sustained multiple hits to the head that were not considered serious, according to the report.

Following their arrival on the scene, police arrested 38-year-old Loretta Manuel on a battery charge, Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain wrote in the report.

Police took Manuel into custody, where she blew a .267 on her breathalyzer test.
