University officials announce annual diversity forum to be held next week

UW-Madison’s annual diversity forum will be held next Monday and Tuesday, according to a university press release.

“Pulse 2014: Diversity’s Evolving Paradigm and Practical Approaches” will “take an unflinching look at the rapidly changing dynamics involving culture, race, society, and economics,” Patrick Sims, chief diversity officer and interim vice provost, said in the release.

In addition to lectures by speakers Rebecca Ryan and Pete Aranda, first-day events will include a faculty panel discussing the current state of civil rights, as well as a town hall meeting with local law enforcement officials. Monday’s events will take place in the Memorial Union’s Shannon Hall, according to the release.

The second day of the forum, taking place in the State Historical Society Auditorium, will feature Marcia Anderson, the first-ever African-American woman to become a major-general in the US Army Reserve.

Events will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
