Friday kicks off the Black Lives Matter Spring 2015 Speaker Series, with the aim to educate the public and empower the black community, according to a press release. The series is sponsored by the Young Gifted and Black Coalition, Comparative U.S. Studies and the Haven’s Center.
The speaker events will span the next four months and will include:

Max Rameau, pan-African theorist and Take Back the Land activist, is set to speak Jan. 23 at 4:00 p.m. in L160 Elvehjem

Opal Tometi, Black Lives Matter and Black Alliance for Just Immigration activist, will address the crowd Feb. 13 at 5:00 p.m. in L160 Elvehjem

Simon Balto will present on policing and politics in black Chicago March 5 at 7:00 p.m. in L160 Elvehjem

Brittney Cooper, assistant professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Africana Studies at Rutgers University, is scheduled to speak March 10 at 4:00 p.m. in 206 Ingraham Hall and March 11 at 4:00 p.m. in 8740 Social Sciences

Beth Ritchie, director of the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy, will speak April 16 at 7:00 p.m. in L160 Elvehjem
