All of UW-Madison’s a cappella groups will be together in one place, Varsity Hall, on Saturday for a benefit concert called Music For Mahanaim. This means Redefined, The MadHatters, Jewop, Tangled Up In Blue, Pitches & Notes and Fundamentally Sound will all be there with all of your favorite music that comes from the mouth. It is rare to see all of these groups come together for one event and is a unique opportunity for a cappella lovers. So let’s talk a bit about these groups.
There will be two co-ed a cappella groups there, Redefined and Jewop. Redefined sings music across genres and has a large following across campus. Jewop is an on-campus a cappella group with a Jewish cultural focus.
The two all-female groups in attendance will be Tangled Up In Blue and Pitches & Notes. Tangled Up In Blue features girls from across the country with a passion for singing. Pitches & Notes may be only four-years old but is quickly growing in popularity on campus.
Finally, there are two all-male groups attending the benefit as well, The MadHatters and Fundamentally Sound. The MadHatters is the group that has been wearing those eye-catching red jackets around campus since 1997. Fundamentally Sound, on the other hand, sports tan suspenders and are a competitive group.
The proceeds from the concert will go to the Wray Family at Camp Mahanaim in Les Cayes, Haiti and the Tomah Haiti Mission team out of Tomah, Wisconsin. The Wray Family has been providing care, education, faith and hope to Haitians living in poverty. They do this by hosting medical, work and ministry teams who visit and help at Camp Mahanaim and surrounding villages.
