Madison police officers arrested a Madison teenager for stealing a local woman’s 2014 Nissan from the 200 block of North Thompson Drive, which occurred Feb. 18.
Lashaun D. Cole, 18, was arrested on terms of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and bail jumping, according to Madison Police Department Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain’s incident report.
Intending to warm her car up on a cold morning, the 44-year-old victim left her car running near her residence when Cole allegedly stole the vehicle, DeSpain wrote in the report.
The victim hung reward posters around the neighborhood and helped lead police to the arrest.
She received a call from a young man offering to meet her at the Hy-Vee grocery store on East Washington Avenue. The caller promised to identify the thief and claimed to have the ignition key.
The woman then contacted MPD according to DeSpain’s report. By the time of Cole’s arrest, the car had been missing for about a week.
Before returning the Nissan to the woman, police confiscated a blue glass pipe, which didn’t belong to the victim.
