Police investigate link between homicide attempt and West Towne Mall gunshots

An 18-year-old Madison man was the victim of an attempted homicide Saturday night, which may have been connected to reports of gunshots at West Towne Mall earlier in the evening, according to a City of Madison Police Department incident report.

The homicide attempt occurred around 10:29 p.m. on the 5800 block of Russett Road on the west side of Madison, according to the report of Sgt. Ann Lehner. Although all suspects fled the area before police arrived, police have identified three possible suspects associated with the attempt.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and entered surgery at a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Police are currently exploring a possible connection between this homicide attempt and a “shots fired” call earlier in the evening at the West Towne Mall parking lot, which did not result in injuries. Both incidents remain open and are under investigation.
