The Student Services Finance Committee passed an act to define the credit seeking process for interested students at their meeting Thursday.
The Intern Clarification Act explains the intern programs coordinated by General Student Services Fund organizations are not paid, as they are completed either voluntarily or for credit.
“This new definition of the intern program is straightforward, on the record and provides clarity,” said SSFC Chair Devon Maier.
Through the new legislation, SSFC makes it clear that credit coordination is done by the student, not the GSSF group.
“We have not had this legislation in place before, which led it to be ambiguous,” Maier said. “This is to make sure everyone is on the same page and groups know what to expect in regards to the intern program.”
The Intern Clarification Act will go into effect this summer for GSSF groups that apply for funding and will become the new standard starting next school year.
