Two Madison bicyclists were struck by cars and transported to hospitals for injuries in two separate incidents Wednesday night, according to two incident reports filed by Madison Police Department Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain.
One biker was riding in the bike lane at 7:17 p.m. at the intersection of East Johnson Street and North Franklin Street when she ran into a car that had turned into the bike lane. The collision knocked the 24-year-old Madison woman unconscious. Two doctors gave the woman medical care until the Madison Fire Department paramedics arrived, according to the incident report.
They transported the woman to a hospital, treating her for a head injury.
Later in the night at 11:29 p.m. at the intersection of University Avenue and North Lake Street, a 25-year-old woman struck a 31-year-old man walking his bicycle across the intersection’s crosswalk. The driver did not see the pedestrian, who was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Both drivers will be cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
