Home opener sees increase in ejections, other incidents from last year’s first game

Saturday’s football game against the Miami RedHawks saw an increase in alcohol-related incidents from last year’s home opener, according to a UW-Madison Police Department report.

Although total arrests fell from 31 to 23 this year from last, more than twice as many ejections occurred, a vast majority of which involved students. Seven people were sent to detox, a slight increase from last year.

Despite the spike in alcohol-related incidents, this year’s game saw less than half as many paramedic calls as last year’s home opener, as well as less total arrests and less students arrested.
