The Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education released a report Wednesday detailing additional effects of the Wisconsin state budget throughout the UW System.
Gov. Scott Walker signed the 2015-’17 budget July 12, which removed tenure protections from state statute. Walker let stand a change that makes all shared governance groups require final approval from UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank and UW System Board of Regents on rulings concerning student life.
The 13 colleges in the UW System faced 83 administration position eliminations, including a decrease in financial aid and admission administrators according to the WISCAPE report.
UW-Madison released potential effects of the budget to the university when Blank said in an April online statement that over 400 positions could be eliminated.
Other UW System universities, such as UW-Milwaukee, have over 100 vacant positions due to cuts to supplies and overall capital, according to the release.
“Most campuses are talking about reducing the number of employees to deal with the cuts—either through early retirement, buyouts, layoffs or not filling vacancies,” WISCAPE Outreach Programs Manager Jason Lee said in the release.
