The Badgers won their final game in the USF Under Armour Classic early Sunday morning, beating the UNLV (8-8), 6-3.
Junior shortstop Chloe Miller shined for the Badgers offensively, posting a career-high five RBIs and a home run.
Kelsey Jenkins started the scoring for the Badgers in the first inning after reaching first base on an error and advancing to second on the throw. Miller hit a single, sending Jenkins home and pushing the score to 1-0.
In the second inning, Kelly Welsh had a single and stole second base, and a sacrifice bunt from Taylor-Paige Stewart advanced Welsh to third. Samantha Arents hit a single, allowing Welsh to score, advancing UW’s lead to 2-0. Ashley Van Zeeland blasted a single which let McKenna Heim, pinch running for Arents, move to second. Miller ended up hitting her second single of the game, allowing Heim to score, giving the Badgers a 3-0 lead at the end of the second.
UNLV did not end up scoring until the third inning, when it added a two-run home run, making the game 3-2 in favor of the Badgers at the end of that inning.
At the top of the fifth inning, the Badgers were at it again when Van Zeeland walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. When Miller got to the plate, she blasted her third home run of the season, giving the Badgers a 6-2 lead.
During the bottom of the fifth, UNLV ended up scoring one more run, bringing the score to 6-3 in favor of the Badgers.
Neither team was able to score in the sixth or seventh innings.
The Badgers (7-7) will be back in action next weekend at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., for five games against Cal State-Fullerton, Arizona State, Oregon State, Fresno State and Long Beach State.
