Freelance journalist Anna Therese Day, a 2010 UW-Madison alumna who was detained Sunday in Bahrain, has been released.
A spokesperson for Day said in an updated Tuesday statement that Day and three colleagues "have been released and and will be leaving Bahrain soon."
Day was detained Sunday while working in the country. She recently worked on a virtual reality documentary film in Egypt.
The government had accused the crew of entering the country illegally and taking part in unlawful gatherings.
She was a 2013 Fulbright Fellow and 2012 United Nations Press Fellow, according to her website.
A family spokesperson dismissed allegations of illegal behavior in a Monday statement.
"Anna and her crew are committed journalists who only want to ensure they could undertake their profession ethically and thoroughly," the spokesperson said. "Anna Day is much loved and missed and we are concerned about her well-being as well as that of her three American colleagues."
Update: This article was updated at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday to reflect that Day and her colleagues had been released.
