A 31-year-old McFarland man was cited for possession of heroin and other drug paraphernalia Friday after driving onto the lawn of an apartment building on the 2200 block of Allied Drive, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.
The driver was found unconscious behind the wheel with the car still running. Police suspect he placed his foot on the brake before going unconscious, preventing the car from causing further damage.
Upon arriving at the scene, Madison Fire Department paramedics and MPD administered Narcan, which is used for emergency treatment of known or suspected opiate overdoses. According to the report, the McFarland man was revived after receiving treatment.
After regaining consciousness, the man asked one of the officers what had happened. The officer replied the man “overdosed and that he had been found not breathing and had to have Narcan administered in order to essentially save his life.”
According to the report, the MPD and MFD routinely respond to opiate overdoses and have used Narcan 27 times since January.
