The Madison Police Department will be increasing its enforcement of impaired driving offenses in anticipation of St. Patrick’s Day weekend, according to a City of Madison news release.
The police department will increase its presence by deploying extra officers around the city this upcoming St. Patrick’s Day weekend, according to the release. In addition to impaired driving, the police will be focusing on speed enforcement and seat belt violations.
The extra oversight will work to respond to the increased alcohol-impaired driving and crashes that traditionally occur on this weekend. In 2015, alcohol-impaired driving was a contributing factor in 4 percent of all crashes and nearly 21 percent of all vehicle crash fatalities in Wisconsin, according to the release.
Specifically, Madison police officers will be focusing on roads with high traffic volume and crash frequency, according to the release.
