The UW-Madison cybersecurity staff is attempting to reconfigure printers and related equipment after hate flyers were printed on campus computers last week as a part of a cyber assault that also targeted other colleges across the nation, according to a university release.
Cybersecurity has learned the IP address responsible for printing the flyers, which had racist, anti-Semitic and anti-gay messages, and has subsequently blocked the address. They are also working with other IT staff to secure network access for the campus stations open to Internet printing, according the release.
The flyers have also appeared on other college campuses, including UW-Milwaukee, Princeton University and Brown University, among several others. Vice Provost and Dean of Students Lori Berquam said the flyers came from someone outside the UW-Madison community.
“At Wisconsin, we value our diversity, in all of its forms, and are trying to create a safe and inclusive community for everyone,” Berquam said in the release.
