Wisconsin outside linebacker Joe Schobert had to be disappointed when his name wasn’t called through the first two days of the 2016 NFL draft, but he didn’t have to wait long on Saturday to hear it. The Cleveland Browns kicked off the fourth round by taking him 99th overall.
Schobert joins former Wisconsin offensive lineman Joe Thomas in Cleveland, but it remains to be seen where exactly the versatile linebacker will slot in with the Browns. At 6-foot-1, 244 pounds, he might be a little undersized to play outside linebacker in the team’s 3-4 defense, but they could opt to slide him to inside linebacker, where the team is thin on the depth chart.
Schobert is the first Wisconsin player taken in this year’s draft. A number of his teammates are hoping to hear their named called, but there is a chance that the linebacker could be the only Badger taken.
