Three men have been arrested for the recent string of graffiti that featured green and black spray-painted images of the Nazi-related Wolfsangel and Valknut symbols, according to UW-Madison Police Department Lt. Aaron P. Chapin. The graffiti has been appearing at both on- and off-campus locations for the past several weeks.
A UWPD officer initially arrested one of the three men late Wednesday night for resisting a police officer. He also received two citations for possession of alcohol on UW lands and camping on UW lands, according to a UWPD incident report.
The suspect, Timothy Arnold, was sleeping on the fourth floor of Vilas Hall when a security officer spotted him. The officer then called dispatch, and a UWPD officer arrived to the scene. The suspect was intoxicated and fought with the responding UWPD officer before he was ultimately taken into custody.
Arnold has been charged with eight counts of criminal damage to property. The estimated damage is around $2,600, according to the UWPD report. He is not a UW-Madison student, and UWPD is seeking to ban Arnold from the campus.
The other two suspects are Adam Ritchie and Frank Horton, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.
Investigators from both UWPD and MPD will continue the follow-up investigation into the graffiti, according to the UWPD report.
