The UW-Madison Police Department released an update Friday saying the first-degree sexual assault reported April 8 likely did not actually occur on that day.
In the original crime warning, a woman was reported to have been held down with a knife by three men and then sexually assaulted. No descriptions of the men were provided.
In the following days, UWPD investigators retraced the woman’s steps and and reviewed surveillance footage. The release stated “the evidence gathered does not support that a sexual assault occurred in that timeframe or at that location.”
Though UWPD does not think the victim was violently sexually assaulted April 8, the department does “believe this woman was assaulted at some point in her life.”
Because of this, UWPD said there is no threat to the campus regarding the previously reported sexual assault.
