Latz leads USA rowing to fifth in quadruple sculls

Grace Latz and her teammates had to wait an extra day to compete in the women’s quadruple sculls final at the 2016 Olympics, but that wait was worth it when they ended up placing fifth overall.

On Thursday in the final, one day after it was postponed due to weather, Latz and her crew cruised through the 2000-meter course to the finish line in 6:57.67.

Germany won the race in 6:49.39, followed by the Netherlands and Poland who claimed the silver and bronze, respectively.

At Wisconsin, Latz earned second-team All-Big Ten and academic All-Big Ten honors while leading the Badgers to the 2010 Big Ten rowing championship, as well as seventh place at the NCAA championship that same year, the school’s best finish in both events.
