Wisconsin Women's Soccer

Wisconsin faces its toughest test thus far against Big Ten-leading Minnesota.

Badgers head home for PAC the MAC following strong showing in road trip

The Wisconsin Badgers (1-2-3) are back at McClimon to face South Dakota State (2-3-1) Friday after a two-game California road trip that culminated in a 2-1 loss to No. 1 Stanford and a 1-1 double overtime tie with No. 22 Santa Clara.

The young Badgers are taking on a Jackrabbits team that has won or tied in three of its last four games. The exception was last Sunday’s contest against Creighton, which was a 1-2 loss. Compared to the Badgers, South Dakota State has not faced a very strong schedule—none of its opponents have been ranked.

One player Wisconsin will need to watch out for is Madison Yueill, who leads the Jackrabbits in scoring with two goals on the season. Last year, the senior was their second leading scorer, and she looks to be back with a vengeance, as she has already scored half as many goals in six games as she did all of last year.

The Badgers have been struggling to find the back of the net so far this season, scoring only four times in the last six games, even when they have dominated offensively. The biggest key for this team is to find a way to win, and after proving they could hang with ranked Santa Clara through two overtimes, this game could be a turning point in their season.

The game will start at 5:30 p.m. at the McClimon Soccer Complex on Friday as part of a “PAC the MAC” doubleheader; afterwards, the men will play Michigan at 7:00 p.m. The game is free with a student ID.
