Democrats announced Wednesday they would delay launching new ads supporting Democrat Russ Feingold's campaign advertising, showing state Democrats are confident in his standing.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is canceling the first week of the new multi-week advertising for Feingold in the U.S. Senate race, which was originally scheduled to start early October, according to the committee's spokeswoman, Lauren Passalacqua.
"Feingold is running an incredibly strong campaign focused on the best interests of Wisconsin families," Passalacqua told the Wisconsin State Journal. "We feel confident about our chances here."
A Republican super PAC also announced this week that they would launch an advertisement attacking Feingold on his multiple votes consenting partial-birth abortion.
The Reform Wisconsin Fund, established Sept. 19, made the PAC responsible for the new anti-Feingold TV ad. The ad, announced Wednesday, cost $365,000 and will air in the Milwaukee, Green Bay, Wausau and Eau Claire-La Crosse media markets.
The TV ad showed video clips of a newborn, explained by how partial-birth abortion works and criticized Feingold's position on this issue.
"Russ Feingold voted eight times to allow partial birth abortions as late as the ninth month of pregnancy. Unimaginable? That's Russ Feingold. Thirty years of being a radical politician. Thirty years of being wrong," the ad narrator said.
The ad also showed that, when questioned by Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pennsylvania, back in 1996, Feingold endorsed the doctor and mother's choice even in the case that the baby was accidentally delivered in a partial-birth abortion.
Feingold leads incumbent Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, who defeated him in 2010, 44 percent to 39 percent in the latest Marquette University Law School poll.
