Teens armed with BB guns arrested for robbery

A 38-year-old Madison male was robbed in Northridge Terrace Sept. 25 by two Madison teens carrying BB guns. The teens, ages 13 and 14, had allegedly been stealing items out of unlocked cars on Northridge Terrace when the victim spotted them and demanded his keys back.

“The youngest—age 13—had the keys in his pocket. He turned back towards the victim, and pointed a handgun at the man,” Madison Police Department Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain wrote in an incident report. “The victim put his hands up, and pleaded, ‘I just want my keys man.’ The teen ignored the man and continued running.”

Officers have found and arrested the suspected teens, recovering “a real looking BB gun, and several items believed to have been stolen, including wristwatches,” according to the report. The teens will be charged with armed robbery, theft from a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.

This local incident follows the Sept. 15 shooting of a 13-year-old boy in Columbus, Ohio. According to Columbus police, robbery suspect Tyre King was shot and killed after pulling a BB gun—which resembled the handguns of the Columbus police—from his waistband.
