A Honda Civic struck a pole head-first on the corner of University Avenue and Whitney Way early Saturday morning, sending the driver to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Both the car’s passenger and driver airbags went off. Madison Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection at 1:56 a.m. Saturday to find the passenger talking with police. He told paramedics he was not injured when they arrived.
“The driver was still behind the wheel, and his door could not be opened. Firefighters stabilized the vehicle as they removed the driver through the open door on the passenger side,” MFD Public Information Officer Cynthia Schuster said in a daily report. “He was placed in an ambulance and taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
MFD did not specify whether alcohol was a factor in the accident.
