The latest Marquette University Law School poll released Wednesday shows Hillary Clinton’s lead over Donald Trump has grown to seven points.
Among likely Wisconsin voters, 44 percent support Clinton while 37 percent Trump, with Libertarian Gary Johnson supported by 9 percent and the Green Party’s Jill Stein at 3 percent. Six percent of voters expressed no preference for a candidate.
The poll of 1,000 registered Wisconsin voters was conducted Oct 6-9, just before the second presidential debate. Polling began the day before The Washington Post published a story and released a recording of Trump making vulgar remarks about women.
“I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait,” Trump says in the recording. “Grab them by the p---y, you can do anything.”
A day-by-day breakdown of the poll numbers illustrates how Trump’s support waned over the weekend. Those polled on Thursday gave Trump a one-point lead over Clinton, but on Sunday Clinton’s support grew to a 49-30 percent margin.
Trump’s poll numbers dropped consistently across demographic groups as the weekend went on. His support among women dropped the most over the course of the poll. Clinton enjoyed a nine-point lead among those polled on Thursday, which ballooned to a 33-point lead among those polled over the weekend.
The university also polled Wisconsinites on the Senate race, with 46 percent of likely voters supporting Russ Feingold, 44 percent supporting incumbent Ron Johnson and four percent supporting Libertarian Phil Anderson.
Feingold led by five points in last month’s poll, a sign the key senate race could be tightening with under a month until the Nov. 8 election.
