Driver accidentally gets car stuck in ‘hole’

When officials from the Madison police and fire departments arrived at the intersection of Hammersley Road and South Midvale Boulevard, they found an elderly woman sitting in her minivan that was stuck in an 18-inch pit dug for construction.

The call came in from a bystander who reported to authorities there was a driver stuck in a “hole” at the intersection.

“It was dark, raining, and difficult to see the pit at the time, and responders say the area was poorly marked,” MFD Public Information Officer Cynthia Schuster wrote in a daily report. “The driver was uninjured but also couldn’t get her van out of the pit.”

MFD firefighters helped the woman out of her car. They put her in an MPD squad car to wait while three MPD officers worked to get her car out of the pit.
