A sedan carrying four and going 30 to 35 mph struck a MINI Cooper carrying three Sunday on the corner of John Nolen Drive and North Shore Drive, sending all seven occupants of the vehicles to the hospital.
The driver of the sedan said he ran into the MINI Cooper, which was stopped at a red light, according to a Madison Fire Department incident report.
“There were three passengers in his vehicle, including a 27-year-old female and two young children. He and the children were belted in; the woman in the front passenger seat was not,” MFD Public Information Officer Cynthia Schuster wrote in the report. “Both front airbags deployed.”
The 49-year-old driver of the MINI Cooper had two passengers in his vehicle at the time of impact, a child and an adult woman. That vehicle’s airbags didn't deploy, but the driver was unsure if his head hit the windshield.
“It all happened so fast,” he told paramedics, according to the report.
The sedan sustained “significant” front-end damage while the MINI Cooper sustained “moderate” back-end damage. MFD was able to contain an antifreeze spill before turning over the scene to the Madison Police Department.
