Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., visited Madison Friday in an effort to rally younger voters around Democratic Senate candidate Russ Feingold.
Feingold, who is locked in a tight race with incumbent Republican Ron Johnson, appeared hand-in-hand with Warren in front of a packed crowd at the Overture Center.
“I’m here because Russ … is a champion of justice,” Warren told the assembled crowd of roughly 1,000.
While the event was intended to promote early voting, the two also took aim at Johnson and Republican nominee Donald Trump.
“The Ronald and the Donald show—don’t let it happen,” Feingold implored, with Warren calling the business mogul a “sleazeball.”
“This is now Donald Trump's party, and the party now reflects Donald Trump," Warren said.
Little has changed in the Senate race since the last time Warren visited campus a year ago. The most recent Marquette University Law School Poll shows Feingold leading Johnson by six points, and Feingold has never trailed in the race.
Despite a consistent lead, Feingold is not playing defense. He encouraged attendees to vote early and slammed efforts to curb early voting, which was restored by a federal judge last month.
Warren argued the Wisconsin race is key in Democratic efforts to flip the Senate, and for bringing back a Democratic majority in Washington that Warren said can create a better future for the nation.
“We believed that if we built a great pipeline of ideas, the future would expand for everyone,” Warren said.
